Haijmari Project

Sister Cities International (SCI) proudly introduces The Haijmari Project: US-Japan Sister Cities Origin Stories. This initiative celebrates over 400 sister city relationships between the United States and Japan, developed over 75 years. Each relationship has a unique beginning, ranging from friendships formed during challenging times like wars and natural disasters to those sparked by simple encounters. The project aims to compile these fascinating origin stories into a bilingual book, scheduled for release in Fall 2025, coinciding with the US-Japan Sister Cities Summit. This effort not only documents the impactful narratives but also strengthens ties between US and Japanese cities in the post-COVID era, promoting mutual understanding and peace through people-to-people connections.
